Unreliable connection

I was never able to get this to work for more than 1 day and eventually abandoned ELRS for MAVLink telemetry. Even while it was connected, I never got a telemetry stream to the ground station.

Connecting a RadioMaster TX16S mk3 to WiFi:

  1. Power on controller
  2. Go to Sys Apps ExpressLRS
  3. Go to Backpack
  4. Set Telemetry to WiFi

If not previously connected to a network, the device should now be creating its own network. Look for ExpressLRS TX Backpack; password is expresslrs.

Connecting to another network

If instead you want to connect the handset to another network rather than have it be the access point, still complete the above steps to connect to the radio. Then, in a browser, go to http://10.0.0.1 for further configuration. From this point on, the web menu is fairly intuitive.

Once you connect, you’ll either need to find the device’s IP or use the hostname elrs_txbp.local to connect to the device on that network.

If the connection fails or the given network is not available, the backpack will reactive its own access point. See previous section for credentials.

WPA modes

It appears that backpacks will only connect to networks with WPA-2 PSK. WPA2/WPA3 mixed-mode networks don’t seem to work.
